Porfirio Manuel Rizo was born on May 4, 1923, in Máximo Gómez, Matanzas province, his parents were Juana Laudelina Rizo Amat and León Cabrera; Although he only had his mother's last name, because he was a natural son. His childhood developed surrounded by great poverty, so he could not attend school until he was 14 years old, when he started primary school, having to leave it, to work in the sugar harvest, thus helping the father in supporting his brothers, because he had lost his mother at the age of 8 years.

Porfirio was a young man with a happy, jovial character; but impregnated with firmness and demand. He also liked to write poetry.

He was always distinguished for his just ideas, at the age of 20 he was a member of the Communist Revolutionary Union Party in Máximo Gómez, around this time he was a worker at the Capitolio Colony of Central Spain and a delegate of the Trade Union Section.

Very soon he was distinguished by his revolutionary enthusiasm and dynamism. In 1944 he was chosen to pass the School of Marxism that existed in the Province of Matanzas. After his stay at the school, he becomes a leader among the workers, developing a wide task. He helped to create unions in colonies where they did not exist and strengthened some that were still weak.

In 1948 he married Evelia García despite there being some opposition to it from the bride's family, to whom he dedicated a few tenths of love.

Already at this time the workers' struggle is intensifying, the mujalistas seized the unions and decreed the replacement of Porfirio, preventing him from the angry protest of the workers, who argued that they would not allow another leader to be imposed on them.

Porfirio continues with his ideas and the quarterly on March 10 serves to increase in him the desire to defend the workers, to fight for what is fair, for the Party, and thus begins the fight against tyranny.

Already in hiding, he makes contact with young people from Cárdenas, develops multiple tasks within the organization, receives and distributes the Weekly Letter, meets with his colleagues, guides, checks and demands the fulfillment of every revolutionary action.

He always said that they had to be met at whatever price was necessary. Due to his tireless revolutionary and agitator status, he was persecuted and harassed by the minions of the Batistato.

His family always lived full of worries and worries about him. He was imprisoned and accused of being a candlestick, unruly and even a murderer, the regime did not hesitate to uselessly try to blame fabricated crimes on those who only lived to fight for the well-being of workers and peasants. There were many opportunities in which he escaped the clutches of tyranny, some for his agility and courage, others for the resistance of workers and peasants who made the guards act with caution when they wanted to arrest him.

In April 58, he returned to the Capitol area with some weapons and supplies, organized support for the revolutionary strike against tyranny, the movement in the region did not take place; reason why he returns to Cárdenas to Pablo Ramos' house, a place where he remains hidden and where his wife sometimes took his children, despite the close vigilance to which she was subjected by the rural guard.

On May 7, 1958, the minions surrounded the house located in Pinillos, No. 263 in Cárdenas and forced Porfirio to accompany them.

The next day, on May 8, 1958, his corpse full of horrible torture appears on the road between Máximo Gómez and Cárdenas, where the revolution raised an obelisk, perpetuating the memory of someone who was an example of patriotism and courage.
