BIOGRAPHY OF DANIEL LEON DIAZ.
Daniel León Díaz was born on January 3, 1940 in Martí s / n street, in Perico, Matanzas province. He was the ninth of the twelve children of Martín and Aurelia, from a humble and peasant family. He studies his primary studies at the Luz y Caballero public school, reaching the sixth grade. He could not continue to improve himself due to the precarious economic situation in which they lived, so he helps in the maintenance of the house, working as a canteen dealer for the road workers who work in the fields near the town.
From a young age he excelled in the practice of sport, excelling on the ball, so his friends called him Mike Mentle.
Although he did not belong to the July 26 movement, at the beginning of the year 58 he linked up with other young revolutionaries in the town, including Ramiro Rodríguez, Francisco Sotolongo (both deceased) and Pedro Luis Rodríguez, deciding to join the fight against tyranny. For this purpose, he makes contact with Miguel A. Guerrero, a young man of just twelve years, an employee of the restaurant "Los Pinos", a native of the East who sends them to his mother named Esther, who guides them from Yara to the foothills of the Sierra Maestra .
Upon his arrival in the Sierra, he was taken before Commander Horacio Rodríguez who recognized him for having resided for some time in Perico, giving him a pass that allows him to get to Minas de Frío where he spent some time training for the "Guerrilla War". Later it is part of the José Antonio Echeverría Mobile Column that operated in the plains of the northern area of Holguín, in the battles of Arroyo del Muerto and San Andrés, where the rebels had ambushed the army of the tyranny. In this combat falls on November 29, 1958 just one month after the triumph of the revolution.
His companions buried a small town called "Los Alfonsos", engraving his name and address on his grave. When the revolution triumphed, his remains were transferred to the Perico cemetery, his native town, where he received posthumous tribute from his family and friends
