Perico

Foundation and name of our municipality.
The area that Perico occupies today, in the 16th century, was an immense forest, hence the
fundamental economic activity was the extraction of precious woods, which were used in naval
constructions, among others that were carried out in the Metropolis.
The foundation of the town of Perico occurs in 1845, the date that Don Juan Daniel, owner of
the Finca La Esperanza located in the Guamuta herd, devised the foundation of the Town of Perico
and for this purpose donated a piece of land from La Esperanza plot to the Cárdenas Railway Company,
in which a Railway Station was built.
This building was the first stone of the Town, from then on the workers who worked in the
construction of said station built their houses around it. Do you know why we don't call Perico? The name is attributed to the existence of a Spaniard who established a store in the area,
which everyone refers to as the Old Perico winery, which was later extended to the nascent hamlet.
