Centro de Estudios Martianos will remember Cintio Vitier on the 99th anniversary of his birth.

The Centro de Estudios Martianos (CEM) will remember this Friday, September 25, the 99th anniversary of the birth of Cintio Vitier (1921-2009), considered one of the most relevant scholars of the work and life of José Martí, with a series of actions thought from the digital stage.

According to a press release, the institution will make available to all interested parties on social networks and the CEM portal (www.josemarti.cu), a compilation of texts showing the validity and timeliness of Vitier's analyzes.

Likewise, it will reposition and make visible on its platforms evaluations and approaches to that great critic, essayist and narrator who dedicated a large part of his work to the most universal of Cubans.

Cintio Vitier is one of the most erudite and recognized Cuban writers not only in Cuba, but on a worldwide scale.
Linked from its beginnings to the Origen magazine group, along with other prominent names in national literature such as José Lezama Lima, Eliseo Diego or Fina García Marruz, known as the Generation of Origen, this author bequeathed titles to the literary and philosophical heritage of Cuba. essential like That sun of the moral world.

The life and work of this great Cuban intellectual was closely linked to the CEM, where he was responsible for the critical edition of the Complete Works of José Martí and for which he produced, in collaboration with Fina García Marruz and Emilio de Armas, the critical edition of the Complete Poetry of Martí (1985).

He was also in charge of the critical editions of Silvestre de Balboa's Espejo de Paciencia (1960 and 1962) and Epistolario (1966-1967) and the Poesías de Juana Borrero (1966); the latter in collaboration with Fina García Marruz, with whom he was also co-author of the compilation Hidden Flower of Cuban Poetry (1978), of the selections Obra literaria (Caracas, 1978) and Ideario (Nicaragua, 1987) by José Martí.

Even after his retirement, he was part of the advisory council of the Centro de Estudios Martianos and chaired the Latin American and Caribbean Chair at the University of Havana.

His great work as a poet, essayist and storyteller led him to be considered one of the most significant Cuban writers of all time.

In honor of his valuable career, he was awarded the José Martí Order, the National Prize for Literature and the Distinction for National Culture
